The Work-Based-Learning Program in Provo School District has been developed to create a more effective relationship between the classroom and the workplace. A student’s education is more meaningful when students realize how what they are learning now in school will help them prepare for their future lives and careers.
Learning about business is simpler for students who, through observation or otherwise, gain an understanding of how the world of business works. One of the goals of Provo School District is to help children become more aware of the world of work by receiving early exposure to a variety of careers. We offer various activities in the district that provide this exposure, such as Career Fairs, Job Shadowing, Field Studies, Tool Days, Reality Town, Internships and more. Through these various activities students begin to see the practical side of what they are learning and how it is used in everyday life.
WIA: Workforce Investment Act;
This Federally Funded Act provides students with certain/qualifying financial, emotional, physical, and or educational needs the opportunity to meet with a guidance counselor at the WIA offices. The counselor will then help the qualifying youth (ages 14-21) investigate and find services to help them stay involved in their high school and or post high school education in preparation for their future career. Please click on the link to fill out and application or simply find more information. You may also wish to contact your school guidance counselor for help in applying to the WIA program, if you are still enrolled in school (you do not need to be enrolled in school to qualify).
