Career Tech
7th & 8th Grade Field Excursions
Nearly all jobs fit into one of the five major career fields: Artistic, Business/Marketing, Science, Social-Humanitarian and Technical. The purpose of the career exploration program is to provide middle school students with the opportunity to visit job sites, which represent each of the career fields. The career exploration program is designed to help students see how jobs in these five field areas are related to their own interests and how the basic skills they are learning in school relate directly to the world of work.
During the students’ visit, they will learn information about specific jobs, some other related jobs, and get a feeling for the general career area.
The purposes of the field study program are as follows:
- To provide an awareness of the variety of educational and career options at an early age
- To utilize resources within the community
- To identify core abilities required in a chosen career field
- To make secondary education more relevant
- To increase student motivation
- To help students set realistic goals
