School Construction and Maintenance Projects
Sunset View Construction Details
The “new” Sunset View Elementary School is refreshing evidence of what can happen when an aging, distressed building receives a modern architectural facelift! The construction improvements to the school's west side, completed in 2007, include an expanded library, a new technology room, new classrooms, a new tutoring lab, new main offices, a conference room, an updated faculty room, a new workroom, and remodeled adult restrooms. The school’s new main entrance sports a dramatic, gabled pyramid above the front doors with a stylized bell tower on top.
Heating and air conditioning upgrades were part of the structural improvements, and the project included a redesigned and resurfaced parking lot and loading zone.
With the west side construction phase now complete, the remodeling phase for the school's east side has commenced this summer. This project includes upgrades to the ceilings and floors, walls and windows, some seismic improvements, fire suppression (sprinklers) and other safety features. The areas of the school undergoing renovation are the lunchroom, gym areas, and both wings of east side classrooms. (Note: in the construction floor plan below, the areas being remodeled this summer are the east side areas shaded in gray color)
The Sunset View Elementary project represents a wise and appropriate use of taxpayer dollars by the district, following well-designed strategies for planning and upgrading. Patrons should note that all of the east side remodeling upgrades are part of the district's Maintenance Plan, not the former Master Plan (which provided funds for the west side renovation).
